  • Walk the crooked sidestreets and backyards of early 19th-century Copenhagen
  • Follow in the footsteps of the strangest and most gifted 14-year-old this city has ever seen
  • Hear the story of how this ugly duckling forced his way from rags to riches

Take a walk through Copenhagen in the footsteps of world-famous author Hans Christian Andersen - author of such amazing novels such as The ugly duckling, Little Mermaid, the Tinderbox, the Nightingale, amongst others.  The first part of the tour follows the path he took on his very first day in the city, arriving from his hometown of Odense, only 14-years of age in 1819. From your friendly and informative guide, hear the story of the strangest boy in town and how he made his way from rags to riches in a society, where social mobility was almost non-existent. On the second part of your tour, your guide will entertain you with the story of his fight to make it in the big city, how he tried his luck as an actor, dancer and singer, before finally cashing in on his ability to befriend the right people - and be sent back to school. The final part of your tour concentrates on his first years as a struggling author and how the first of his famous fairytales came to life. On this tour, you will also get the story of Copenhagen's transformation from the dirtiest capital in Europe to something completely special.
