Folketinget The Parliament

“Folketinget” is the Danish name of Denmark’s parliament and it is situated in a part of the beautiful Christiansborg Palace in the heart of Copenhagen.
The principles of the Danish democracy are based on that all men and women should be born free and equal and the first Constitutional Act and Denmark’s first democratic parliament was founded in 1849. There are currently eight government parties in the Danish parliament and approx. 80-90 %, of the Danish citizen’s vote at the general elections.
More than 80 000 people visit the parliament each year and attend the sessions of “Folketinget”, which all are open to the public.
It is also possible to attend one of the public guided tours on Sundays during the whole year, or on Mondays-Fridays in July and August. The free tickets need to be picked up in advance at the main entrance and the English tours are usually taking place at 2 pm.
In October-June guided tours are only available for groups of at least 15 people and they need to be booked in advance.
All areas of “Folketinget” are non-smoking.
