Søllerød Kro
Copenhagen
Søllerød Kro is a Michelin-starred gourmet restaurant located on the northern cusp of Copenhagen. The cuisine is predominantly seafood, although not exclusively so. The original building dates back to 1677, where it was opened by a local vicar to provide passing parishioners a place to stay. Some three hundred years later in Holte, an area of Copenhagen, the building still stands, surrounded by a neighboring wood and pond in an idyllic location.
Fronted by the hugely experienced restaurant manager Jan Restorff and head chef Jakob de Neergaard, Søllerød Kro has bounded from strength to strength since the duo took over, regaining a Michelin star that had previously been lost in 1999.
The cuisine available at Søllerød Kro really is exceptional. Set menus are available for lunch and dinner, ranging between DKK 495 and DKK 875. These contain dishes such as King Crab with artichokes and green apples, broth of veal with onion and tails, and also steamed lemon sole with oysters, leek and mussel sauce. A vegetarian set menu is also available. However, the main attraction at Søllerød Kro is the Prestige menu. At a price of DKK 1595, it could be mistaken for being lavish, until you consider the dishes that are on it. Amongst the entrees are the restaurants signature Rossini caviar, followed by sea-sweet lightly roasted scallops. Danish black lobster tail with garlic puree and a burned oil broth makes up the mains, alongside pan-roasted turbot with white asparagus and a delicate bouillon. Also on the Prestige menu are venison tenderloin served with foie gras cubes, whilst the desserts are home-made sorbets, beautifully presented alongside fresh fruit, mousse and chocolate accompaniments.
The exquisite food can all be enjoyed amidst the picturesque settings that Holte in Rudersdal has to offer. The entrance to the restaurant opens out to a courtyard, where summer dining can be taken alfresco, alongside the beautiful fountain. As can be expected of a venue that presents such haute cuisine, the interior is flawless. White linens, silver cutlery and candleholders are all accentuated in a dining area that has maximized the natural light and utilized pleasant pastel colors. Fresh lilies, wood furnishings and a collection of expensive wine bottles round out the interior décor.
In summary, Søllerød Kro is truly a destination for those wishing for an exceptional gastronomic experience.
