L’Aurora is an exceptional Italian trattoria and restaurant located on Tolbodgade in the heart of Copenhagen, only steps away from the Amalienborg Royal residence.
The interior is had a typical rustic Italian feel to it, with wooden tables covered in cream linen and the tops of wine barrels set up for tasting the wines expertly selected by the sommelier Simone Celeghin. The wines are mostly Italian, and can be selected regionally. Examples from the list include a Tuscan Chianti for DKR 65 by the glass, and a 2008 Sauvignon from the Apulia region of Italy, also for DKR 65 by the glass. For the connoisseur, you may also find a 1993 Tuscan Chianti for DKR 2495 on the extensive wine list.
The menu is updated monthly by head chef Federico Baruzzi. Amongst the starter offerings for the month of May are antipasti at DKR 135, gnocchi with pistachio, spring ravioli containing a luscious blend of zucchini, asparagus and ricotta, and also linguini with rabbit, all priced at DKR 145.
The main course dishes include gold bass with grilled vegetables, fillet of veal with a ragout of mushrooms, leeks and ginger sauce, or the rustic lamb shank, served with artichokes, white beans and gravy. Mains cost DKR 165.
The desserts on offer include a cappuccino brulèe, and a selection of Italian cheeses, to be enjoyed with a stiff espresso or latte.
L’Aurora enjoys picturesque surroundings, with the sea visible from the building, and sharing a castle as its neighbor. Because of this idyllic setting near to Frederiksgade and Amalienborg, they also offer wedding services, which will need to be booked in advance.
