Begin your tour at the waterfront plaza, where you'll admire the striking Neo-futurist exterior of the Copenhagen Opera House. The building covers an impressive 41,000 m² – equivalent to six football fields. I. Harbour Plaza – Start with panoramic views of the harbour and the city skyline. II. Exterior Architecture – Designed by renowned Danish architect Henning Larsen, this 2.5 billion DKK masterpiece was a gift to the Danish people from the A.P. Møller Foundation. III. Grand Foyer – Enter the magnificent five-storey foyer, where Olafur Eliasson's world-renowned floating light sculptures create an unforgettable first impression. IV. The Auditorium – Step into the stunning horseshoe-shaped auditorium, seating up to 1,700 guests. The ceiling is adorned with 105,000 sheets of 24-carat gold leaf, weighing 1.5 kilograms, while 2,500 lamps illuminate the stage. V. The Royal Box – See the King's private box, which has hosted numerous royal visits and state occasions. VI. Backstage & Stage Machinery – Discover one of the world's most advanced theatres: six stage sections, multi-tonne stage wagons that silently move entire sets, and 40 cm-thick concrete walls. VII. Rehearsal Areas – Subject to availability, explore the rehearsal rooms where artists and technicians prepare for performances. VIII. Harbour Views – Conclude with breathtaking panoramic views over Copenhagen's harbour. IX. Danish Opera History – Throughout the tour, your guide will share the story of Danish opera, from the Royal Danish Theatre (established 1748) to this modern masterpiece. Please note: This is a 120-minute guided tour. The tour begins at the main entrance lobby (Ekvipagemestervej 10) and concludes at Takkelloftet, the Opera House's intimate 'little sister stage'. As a working theatre, rehearsals may require route adjustments. Private photography is welcome, but please refrain from photographing staff. This tour is not recommended for children under 7.
